The stock clutch cable in a Type 1 was
designed pull in a pressure plate that only had to hold 60 horse power or less.
Today's performance engines are way
beyond that and so are the pressure plates. A stage I or II pressure
plate will substantially reduce the life of the stock clutch cable and
pedal shaft where the two connect and wear. Additionally, OEM galvanized
cables can stretch and frequently loose the proper adjustment.
At long last a solution is available! We have designed a direct bolt-in replacement for both the troublesome stock clutch pedal shaft and clutch cable. This is a complete clutch cable system that replaces all of the failure prone OEM components from front to back with no modifications at all.
No more stretchy, breaky galvanized stock clutch cable. Also, no more broken clutch pedal from an improperly fitting shaft. Our system fills the gap between the stock parts that are not up to the
task and a hydraulic conversion that can be very difficult and may also
harm the value of your vintage machine.
The
CMA Heim Link Clutch Cable System is the absolute best ever made for
air cooled Volkswagens™. Furthermore, our system is made from the finest
workmanship and materials available. The clutch pedal shafts are also stainless steel, CAD
designed, precision centerless ground, laser cut and TIG welded. We precision grind
the pedal shaft to the exact diameter for a perfect, wiggle free fit of
the pedal onto the shaft. Precision grinding costs more than raw stock (not available in a diameter close enough to pass our quality standards) but it ensures the best possible fit
that cannot otherwise be achieved. The grinding process also provides a
smooth finish and a correct fit in the bushings to maintain the proper
grease film thereby reducing wear and increasing the life of the
bushings and shaft. These units also are designed with the proper offset to
ensure a perfect alignment with the cable guide tube in the floor pan
tunnel.
We custom make all of our cables
from aircraft stainless steel wire rope, never from galvanized like the
stock units. No more broken clutch pedal from an improperly fitting
shaft. Also, no more stretchy, breaky Brazilian or Mexican galvanized
steel clutch cable - a definite plus when running a heavy clutch.
Seriously, there has got to be a reason they use stainless steel wire
rope on airplanes instead of galvanized.
